Can you satisfy everyone? | The Moral of the Story

Once a farmer decided to sell his donkey. He took his son along with him to sell the donkey in a nearby village.

Both of them walked towards the market pulling the donkey. The farmer thought that riding on the donkey might tire it and therefore he would not get a good price, so he did not ride on it and instead he pulled it along with him.

Some passers-by laughed at them on the way.  Then they said, “Look at those fools! Both of them are walking! They could get on the donkey and ride instead of walking along with it”.

So the farmer decided to let his son ride the donkey. The farmer continued his journey by walking and let his son ride on the donkey.

After some distance some others saw. They were angry that the young son was sitting on the donkey while the old father was walking.

After listening to them, the son immediately got down and made the father sit on the donkey to satisfy them. They continued their journey.

The Moral of the Story

After going a little further, they saw some old women sitting near the door and talking. The woman accused the farmer of  “sitting comfortably and bullying the man’s son by asking him to walk.”  The farmer was very angry. He placed his son with him on the donkey.

Now the father and son sat happily on the donkey and continued their journey. Some farmers who were working in the field saw them.

“What cruel people, that donkey will surely break down without bearing the burden,” they criticised. Hearing this, father and son immediately jumped down from the donkey.

They both decided it was best to carry the donkey. After a great struggle tying the donkey’s legs, they carried it on their shoulders and continued walking.

Before reaching the village they had to cross a bridge over the river. The children, who were near the river, laughed and laughed at the strange sight of the farmer and his son carrying the donkey with great difficulty.

Hearing the loud noise, the frightened donkey breathed heavily.  Both the father and son who were carrying it lost their grip. That poor donkey was thrown into the river!. Disappointed, the farmer returned home empty-handed.

Moral: Don’t lose what’s on your hand, to satisfy others.
